Is it just me or is pretty much all of the music being released theese days just pure and utter crap. Even the indie genre is starting to get invaded by the slash pop stars. What i mean by a slash pop star is a pop star who claims to have some kind of musical edge like the way Busted think they are Punk. The darkness are the band i have my main problems with, i am fairly big Glam rock fan andi just cringe everytime they are called glam. They just produce music that we be popular for two or three weeks by the general idiots who call them selfs alternitve music fans or what ever.
WE NEED SOME GOOD MUSIC
Please suggest to me some gunuine music artists that you feel are actually producing prober music. EYU dont bother replying unless you do intend on being semi serious. Im sure only being semi serious isnt to much to ask.

Michael Nyman Coldplay Sting
I don't have a problem with The Darkness - they were doing it before they got any publicity. It's the populist let's-make-some-money karaoke singers that annoy me.
...eyes?

<3 Goo Goo Dolls <3 <3 No Doubt and <3 quite a bit of Matchbox Twenty, despite them having a shit name.
Am in college at the minute. My whole class is in a mock exam but since I don't have to do it I'm on my own "working" in an IT room. That's wasting time here and buying CDs, of course ;D
CD albums for £1.99. £1.99!

The Cure, too. Especially More than This and Friday I'm in Love. Foo Fighters' Walking after You and Learn to Fly are spiff, too. But we all know you can't go wrong with a bit of Kylie

Busted.. talent and fantastic musical art. Scooter, we think these should occupy our minds for a short length of time. and now for something completely different, maybe your small intelligence can get around the wonderful art work of the ever so fantastic anal cunt... hopefully you will be able to interepret these - an admirer, not jane though...

In which case, I'll have to make two posts. One serious and one not.
I SYMPATHISE/AGREE WITH YOUR STORY AND/OR OPINION

The Shins
60's-inflected indie pop music, very catchy, getting increasingly popular in America (...as that's where they're from)
Try: Kissing the Lipless, Pink Bullets, Young Pilgrims
Sleater-Kinney
All-girl "rawk" band, at their best on the album "One Beat". Better than the description makes it seem.
Try: Oh!, Hollywood Ending, Combat Rock
Broken Social Scene
Eclectic Canadian collective with music that is so, so much superior to their abysmal name. At their absolute best on the album "You Forgot It In People"
Try: Cause = Time, Anthem for a Seventeen year old Girl, Pacific Theme
12 Rods
Obscure band who make absolutely amazing music that would be considered pop within the exclusive American Indie scene, but is actually very complex, very catchy and brilliant music. At their best on the album "Split Personalities"
Try: Red, Make-out Music, Split Personalities
The Decemberists
I can't possibly explain them to you in a way that won't be terribly off-putting, but...I'll try. Again, American indie-pop/folk music, often about pirates, each song constructing this fantastic historical story about something or other. Really, unless you hear them, you'll think that sounds terrible...
Try: Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect, Leslie Ann Levine, A Cautionary Song
I have many...many more suggestions, so if you like any of those, or want an opinion from some who immerses themself in odd music, just ask.

Well I agree about the Darkness, not a fan at all and they realise that they have had their moment .... a long long time ago. But i disagree on the part about all music being 'shite' atm, there is a few good bands knocking around such as Muse (although im sure someone will disagree), Coldplay, RHCP, Garbage, Goldfrapp and Starsailor (my faves of the moment).

...I could go on forever.

Starsailor (my faves of the moment). I love Starsailor's latest - I'll have to listen to some of their other stuff. Also Fischerspooner, just for the name.

I reckon the serious discussion of what constitutes good music should be moved to the "Beethoven & Others..." thread in Articulations. Which band's better than which other band, and whose favourite music isn't real, can stay here. i.e. move the debate over there; reply here with preferences and opinions. As you were.
