The RacCommiesIt seems that subliminal messaging has infiltrated every nook and cranny of society, but kids' programmes? That's ludicrous! ... or is it? Can you think of any instances or examples where children's programming turns into mind programming?

There was a kids' programme on Channel 4 Schools recently, "Coming to Britain" about Floella Benjamin, her child-actor-double and her family. The conclusion was that she realised she'd have to work twice as hard as everyone else in order to get the same recognition, because she was an immigrant. Nice.

Tots TV. A Pakistani brainbox, a French girl with a magic sack (make of it what you will) and a thick Scottish kid called Tiny, because he was... get this... tiny! Hahahaha!
No, wait, no. I like how the others have good things and the racially local lad is thick AND small. Mmmm, positive discrimination.

The Fairly Oddparents is downright subversive...I think they do it on purpose tho. All authority figures are demonized - the parents lie constantly, the babysitter is a slavedriver, and the teachers are insane. The only hope lies in the eventual revolt of the downtrodden lower class, and their magical fairy friends!

That's actually the only contemporary kids' programme that I can put up with/like watching - 'cos it's got adult-esque humour.

I watched the one-year anniversary at a friend's house on Sunday, the one where it went back and told the story of how it all began. It was fuckin hilarious, you could totally tell that the people who write it do so to entertain themselves, and the kids come second. So many allusions...heeheehee
