The rules are these: You have 24 hours from the time of this post to make the longest word you can out of the following nine letters. Each player may submit only one word, and you may not submit a word that has already been submitted by another player. Letters may be generated randomly, or simply chosen; there must be at least three consonants and at least three vowels. These aren't quite the proper Countdown rules - this is The Twaddle Countdown. Incidentally, if you invent your own, different, Countdown-like game, it should be described as a "quasi-Countdown game" (QCG), to save confusion over the rules. These letters were generated by random.org. I selected six consonants by generating six random numbers from 1 to 21, and three vowels by generating three random numbers from 1 to 5; these then mapped into letters. Y A T F O W S E X
And no, I haven't ordered the letters artificially...

These aren't quite the proper Countdown rules - this is The Twaddle Countdown. As long as it's not Europe's " The Final Countdown", I fucking hate that song TEXAS

COVER-UP
hyphenated words are technically one; and what about contractions with apostrophes? Do those count?

I was going to put "pouvre" from French but then realised I wasn't a cheating cheat-cheat like you with your hyphens

It was sorta bob's turn to pick one... but never mind.
As for which words qualify, same as proper Countdown - any word in the OED that isn't a proper noun or an Americanism (I don't think they allow Americanisms any more). If apostrophes and hyphens aren't in the selection you can't use them; accents, however, are to be ignored - "cafe" would be OK (assuming the letters are actually there...)
And finally, children - one game per thread, please
